Man gets life in jail for murdering Dubai woman over Dh500

  DUBAI – A Bangladeshi man who strangled a prostitute in Dubai after she demanded Dh500 as payment will be spending life in prison after the Dubai appeal court rejected his plea for acquittal on Monday (October 17). The woman's decomposed body was found in a sandy area in Dubai Investment Park in Jebel Ali in March 2014, one year after she was murdered. Police said that a shayla was found tightly wrapped around the woman's neck, indicating that she died due to strangulation. Police were able to identify the body after finding identification documents in the woman's pocket. Investigation revealed that the woman had been living in a labour accommodation with the Bangladeshi, identified as M.K., and had been missing since March 2013. M.K. resigned from the company where he worked and left the UAE in April, 2013, police said. M.K. told the court that he met the woman in Jebel Ali where they "had sex in the sandy area". "Then she demanded Dh500 instead of Dh200. We quarrelled for a while before she told me that she would report the matter to the police. When she grabbed my shirt, I felt scared and strangled her with her shayla. I took her mobile and ran after I realised that she had died," he said. Another Bangladeshi worker testified in court that M.K. had told him that he knew the woman for 18 months and that M.K. was angry after the woman asked him for money to travel to her country. "He also claimed to me that she had threatened to dump him and find another man," the man testified in court.
