The Dubai Misdemeanor Court sentenced a young gulf man to two months in jail and fined him Dh20,000 for stabbing an Arab with a knife.
The victim was injured and could not do personal activities for more than 20 days.
The court also dismissed the victim's civil lawsuit.
The case began in June of last year when a security guard working in a hotel in Dubai's Al Barsha neighborhood filed a complaint alleging that a nightclub customer had been assaulted with a knife.
According to the complainant, a fight broke out between a young Arab man and a young Gulf man. The latter wielded a knife hidden inside his clothes.
The complainant said the victim tried to avoid the defendant's repeated assaults. The defendant eventually stabbed him several times in the arm before the guard and others present could subdue him and report the incident to the police.
During the investigation, the victim stated that the defendant thought he was flirting with his girlfriend while they were in a nightclub.
Following a verbal altercation, the victim was surprised to see the defendant brandishing a knife hidden between the folds of his clothes and repeatedly attempting to assault him until he hit him in the left hand.
According to the official documents, the defendant admitted to assaulting the victim with a knife.
