Man jailed in Dubai for forcing teen to steal mother’s Dh50,000 gold jewellery

An Asian man has been jailed in Dubai and fined Dh5,000 for forcing a teenager to steal his mother’s gold jewellery worth Dh50,000. The Dubai Court of Misdemeanours sentenced the Asian man to one month in jail followed by deportation, according to reports on Saturday (August 20). The court heard that the man threatened to send the victim's parents a video of the teen smoking cigarettes. The court did not release details about the identity of the Asian man or the victim. The case dates back to May when the teen’s mother reported that her son was being blackmailed by an Asian man. She showed Instagram chats between her son and the man. In the messages, the woman saw photos of her jewellery as well as read insults that the man sent to her son. Upon checking her safe, she noticed 18 pieces of gold jewellery missing. When she confronted her son about the Instagram chats and the missing jewellery, he admitted that he stole the jewellery after being blackmailed by the Asian man. The teen said he met the suspect four months ago and that the latter had asked him for Dh3,000. When he refused to give the money, the man reportedly threatened to send a video of him smoking cigarettes and also warned that he will implicate him in criminal cases. The teen said he stole his mother’s jewelley out of fear of being blackmailed. When police summoned the Asian man, he denied blackmailing the teen and claimed that the latter gave him money to help repair his car. Police records show that the Asian man has been involved in two incidents of theft. In the first incident, his father accused him of stealing Dh3 million. In the second incident, his father accused him of stealing Dh80,000. The man’s father later dropped both charges. ICA/Expat Media
