Dubai's Court of Appeal has upheld a three-month prison sentence for an Asian expatriate convicted of possessing and abusing heroin. The court also ordered his deportation following the completion of his sentence. Details about the convict's identity and nationality have been withheld. According to court records, the case dates back to January 2023, when Dubai Police's General Department of Anti-Narcotics received intelligence about a man in Al Satwa who was using and possessing narcotics. Acting on the tip, a police team raided the suspect's residence, leading to his arrest. During a search, officers discovered three packets of heroin. A forensic analysis later confirmed that the seized items included six tin foil packets containing a total of 89 grams of heroin. The suspect’s drug test also returned positive results. During interrogation, the suspect admitted to possessing the heroin for personal use. He disclosed that he obtained the drugs through a contact he met via WhatsApp, who provided him with pick-up locations and received payments through bank transfers. The initial court ruling sentenced him to three months in prison, along with the confiscation of the seized narcotics. The appeal court has now upheld this decision, reinforcing the UAE’s strict stance against drug-related offenses.
