Man murdered in Dubai mall parking, 2 on trial

  DUBAI – A Pakistani businessman was found stabbed to death in an underground parking of a shopping mall in Dubai, with two suspected attackers on trial for premeditated murder. The court heard on Thursday that the attack was spurred by a Dh1 million business deal gone wrong between the Pakistani and two Afghan brothers, aged 19 and 23. The brothers allegedly paid the businessman Dh1 million for a business partnership involving managing a parking land. After four days of negotiations, the three of them took a car ride to the mall where the 23-year-old Afghan man operated a tailoring shop. During the car ride, a heated argument ensued over the delay in closing the business deal. When they reached the mall's underground car park, one of the brothers tried to stab the businessman, who got out of the car and ran. However, the brothers were able to catch up with him and he was repeatedly stabbed in the chest and head. The attack was caught on surveillance camera footage, with the mall's security guards alerted by what they saw on screen. “When we reached the spot, we saw the suspects trying to pull the businessman’s body to put him in the trunk. Once they saw us, they left the body and sped away in their car," one of the security guards testified. Police investigators were able to track the suspects and raided their residence in Sharjah where they found a ghotra that had the victim’s bloodstains. The brothers were arrested in Al Ain before they could flee the UAE. At the trial on Thursday, the 19-year-old Afghan pleaded guilty to killing the Pakistani businessman, while his older brother pleaded not guilty. “I killed the victim over a money dispute of Dh1 million… my brother had nothing to do with the crime and he was not present at the crime scene.
