  DUBAI - The convicted killer of Obaida Sedqi is sane and was aware of his actions when he kidnapped, raped and then murdered the eight-year-old boy. This was shown in a mental assessment report presented on Thursday to the Dubai Court of Appeal during a hearing on an appeal by the convict Nidal Eisa Abdullah of his death sentence. The report also stated that the 48-year-old Abdullah has an anti-social personality disorder and was an alcoholic "but it does not affect his perception nor does it hinder his ability to distinguish . He is fully aware and responsible for his actions." Abdullah was convicted of murder and rape of Sedqi and sentenced to death by the Dubai Criminal Court for the crime. The appellate court ordered on October 23 that Abdullah, a Jordanian, be examined by a panel of psychiatrists at Rashid Hospital to assess his mental state upon the request of Abdullah's lawyer. Abdullah had claimed he is suffering from a mental illness, prompting his lawyer to ask for a mental examination of his client. Accordng to a mental assessment report, Abdullah was admitted to the Rashid Hospital psychiatric section where he was examined by a medical committee for a week. "He also underwent a personality test by psychiatrists and their clinical diagnosis was consistent with the committee's findings. A CT scan was conducted and its results returned normal. An EEG test showed no signs of any epilepsy," the report said. Abdullah kidnapped Sedqi from his father's garage in Sharjah industrial area on May 20. He brought the boy to the Al Mamzar area in his car and raped Sedqi at the backseat before killing him. Two days later, Sedqi's body was found in Al Warqa, Dubai. The next hearing on the appeal is scheduled on January 8.
