Man sues UAE airline for damage to passport
A man has sued a UAE-based airline for allegedly damaging the passports of his children. The man told the Abu Dhabi Family and Civil Administrative Claims Court that the flight stewards gave his children printed passport covers with Disney characters, and that the covers were then put on their passports. When they reached home, the man found out that the printed covers had damaged the children’s passports. He demanded Dh10,000 in compensation from the airline. The airline denied any wrongdoing, and its lawyer requested for the case to be dismissed due to lack of grounds. The court ruled in the airline’s favour and dismissed the lawsuit. The court also asked the man to pay for the airline’s legal expenses. In its ruling, the court said that the man was at fault for allowing the covers to be put on his children’s passports, adding that the passenger should have protected the official documents.
