DUBAI – A manager and his two accomplices have been jailed in the UAE for detaining their colleague in a staff accommodation for three days. According to records, the trio also assaulted their colleague to force him to return Dh150,000 that he allegedly owed the company. The Asian trio was sentenced to six months in jail, followed by deportation. The case dates back to June 2021 when the victim’s friend reported the incident to police after receiving information from another friend that a gang was demanding Dh150,000 for their friend’s release. Dubai Police investigators located the victim in one of the rooms in the staff accommodation. Police said he was “in a state of fear” and visibly fatigued. The victim told police that his manager and two accomplices seized his phone and detained him in the room where they beat him up for three days. He said that the gang also asked him to contact a friend in his home country to help him transfer Dh150,000 that they were demanding from him. That friend then contacted another friend in the UAE, who then reported the incident to the police, which led to the arrest of the victim’s manager and his accomplices.
