Philippine President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has appointed three key officials to oversee the government while he embarks on a working visit to the UAE on November 26. This development, announced by the Presidential Communications Office (PCO) on Monday (November 25), ensures uninterrupted governance during his absence. Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin, Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla, and Agrarian Reform Secretary Conrado Estrella III will comprise the "caretaker committee," according to PCO Secretary Cesar Chavez. Their roles include maintaining administrative stability and overseeing critical operations. Marcos is expected to meet UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan in Abu Dhabi to discuss and finalize agreements aimed at strengthening bilateral ties. The visit underscores the Philippines' commitment to enhancing cooperation with the Gulf state, a vital partner in trade and labor. “The President's trip carries a high purpose, aiming to bolster our strategic partnership and deepen our shared interests,” Chavez remarked. Marcos’ delegation has been deliberately reduced to prioritize his swift return to Manila, where he continues to personally oversee recovery efforts for regions affected by a series of typhoons. The announcement on Monday follows the recent controversy involving Vice President Sara Duterte. Over the weekend, Duterte alleged in a press briefing that she had contracted an assassin to kill Marcos, First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos, and Speaker Martin Romualdez if she were targeted first. Duterte's remarks have raised significant concerns about security. Executive Secretary Bersamin has referred the matter to the Presidential Security Command, emphasizing the seriousness of the allegations. “The safety and security of the President and his family are paramount.
