Massage card menace: man jailed for punching Dubai policeman, visitor in court for injuring officer

  DUBAI - A 22-year-old Nigerian man has been sentenced to three months in jail for punching a policeman who spotted him putting massage service cards on parked cars. The Nigerian was caught in a random police inspection in Al Ghusais. He will be deported after serving his sentence. He was spotted by the police officer during the November 2017 incident. As the officer tried to handcuff him, he resisted arrest and punched him in the nose. Another policeman managed to restrain the Nigerian. He was arrested and taken to the police station. “We saw the placing massage cards on cars and when we tried to stop him, he started running. We stopped him instantly and when my partner tried to restrain him, he punched him. We managed to overpower him and handcuff him,” said the policeman. On Monday (February 26), the Nigerian was convicted of resisting arrest and assaulting a sergeant. He was also fined Dh5,000. At the Dubai Court of First Instance, he denied assaulting the police officer but admitted that he resisted arrest and tried to run away. In a separate court case on Monday, a 35-year-old Vietnamese man was accused of injuring a policeman who tried to arrest him for leaving massage service cards on cars. The Vietnamese man was caught during a random inspection in Jebel Ali in December. The police officer testified that when he identified himself to the Vietnamese man, the latter pushed him, causing him to fall on the ground and injure himself. The Vietnamese man was eventually arrested following a police chase. The hearing resumes on March 12.
