The shores of Dubai will be transformed into a massive reef zone called the Dubai Reef Project, one of the world’s largest marine developments. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, shared that the project will span 600 square kilometres off Palm Dubai, Palm Jebel Ali and The World islands. The area is equivalent to more than 85,000 football fields. The Dubai Reef Project is aimed at creating reefs to increase the fish population and marine life in the area by eight times in the next 10 years. “The project embodies Dubai’s commitment to preserving the environment and promoting biodiversity,” Sheikh Hamdan said. “Dubai is strongly dedicated to making substantial contributions to global efforts to mitigate the impact of climate change through initiatives that promote the sustainability of our natural environment, with particular emphasis on coral reefs. We will continue to pursue these strategic goals to ensure a more sustainable future for generations to come,” Sheikh Hamdan said. Dubai Reefs would be a sustainable floating community for marine research, regeneration and ecotourism. It would also be home to more than 1 billion corals and 100 million mangrove trees.
