Companies enter into partnership to produce film, TV projects

  MBC Group has partnered with Image Nation Abu Dhabi to make film and TV projects and their first endeavor will be a movie adaptation of Muslim author Ibraheem Abbas' best-selling sci-fi novel HWJN. As planned, HWJN will be made into an Arabic language feature film co-produced and jointly financed by Image Nation and O3 Productions, the production arm of MBC. HWJN is about the friendly, devout Jinn named HWJN and his friendship with Sawsan, a Saudi female medical student. In Arabian and Muslim mythology, a Jinn is an intelligent spirit of lower rank than the angels who's able to appear in human and animal forms and can possess humans. The bond between HWJN and Sawsan develops, breaking down barriers and dimensions between the human and Jinn worlds, and setting the scene for an epic showdown with the evil Jinn ruler Sanam. Because of its storyline, HWJN became a pop culture phenomenon in the Arab world, particularly in Saudi Arabia, and it topped bestseller lists across the Gulf region. HWJN author Ibraheem Abbas is ecstatic that his novel will be made into a movie. "Four years ago our first novel HWJN was rejected by publishing houses because fantasy and science fiction were alien to Arab audiences. We created our own publishing house and exceeded expectations – the Arab public, especially young people, were eager for fantasy and science fiction and our four novels topped the bestseller lists in the region," Abbas recalled. "Our fanbase have always asked to see their beloved characters on screen. Aside from making HWJN into a movie, O3 and Image Nation will produce a TV spin-off of the series "The Delusionists".
