Former champion Daniil Medvedev moved into the quarterfinals of the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships on Thursday (February 26). Medvedev defeated Stan Wawrinka 6-2, 6-3 and will next face American Jenson Brooksby, who beat Dubai-based seventh seed Karen Khachanov 7-6 (6), 6-4 on Wednesday (February 25). The winner of that clash could meet last year’s finalist Felix Auger-Aliassime, who also booked his place in the last eight. Auger-Aliassime recovered from 1-4 down in the opening set to defeat French qualifier Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard 6-4, 6-4. “It definitely didn’t start the way I wanted,” Auger-Aliassime said. “Once I got settled in, I felt like I was returning well. I just thought to myself, ‘I’ll get my chances,’ and I did. I took them and came back brilliantly.” On dealing with Perricard’s powerful serve, he said: “After I cleaned up the double faults, I was more efficient. Also moving him a little bit more, because he’s so powerful when he’s not moving. You have to adjust tactically to find a way to win.” Auger-Aliassime will next meet Czech eighth seed Jiri Lehecka, who defeated Spain’s Pablo Carreno Busta 7-6 (6), 6-4. PIA/MFD/Expat Media
