Meteor shower to light up UAE skies for two days

DUBAI - A shower of meteors will light up the sky on August 12 and 13 for a celestial treat this month, astronomers said. The Perseid Meteor Shower will be on its peak on the night of August 12 and the morning of August 13. The shower happens as the Earth passes through the debris of Comet 109P/Swift-Tuttle, which was first discovered in 1862 and last brushed with the inner solar system in 1992. In Dubai, Dubai Astronomy Group's CEO, Hasan Al Hariri said that the meteor shower will be visible without using any special equipment. Al Hariri said that viewers will only need a clear sky and a secluded viewing spot away from the city lights. The Dubai Astronomy Group is organizing a Perseid Meteor Shower party in the Al Qudra desert.
