The death toll in a passenger bus crash in western Mexico has risen to 18, state officials said on Friday (August 4). The bus, carrying around 42 passengers, veered off the highway and plunged down a steep hillside in the Mexican state of Nayarit on Thursday (August 3). At least 23 others were injured. The bus driver has been detained, according to the Nayarit state government. Authorities suspect him of speeding while approaching a bend in the road. Officials said the bus was heading to the northern border town of Tijuana and was carrying mostly foreigners, including citizens from India, African nations and Dominican Republic. This area is known as a common point from where numerous migrants endeavor to seek refuge in the United States, local media outlets reported. MFD/Expat Media
