Bosh had been suffering from blood clots

  MIAMI – Chris Bosh and the Miami Heat have formally part ways on Tuesday. The move ended a nearly three-year between the player and the Florida team stemming from blood clot issues. ESPN sources said Bosh, the National Basketball Players Association (NBPA) and the NBA agreed last month on a one-time deal to permanently remove Bosh from the Miami Heat's salary cap while giving Bosh the option of someday returning to the sport. The sources also said the rules state that had Bosh been able to return, Bosh's salary would have returned to the Heat's books. According to ESPN, the deal worked out "because Bosh was caught in the middle of two collective bargaining agreements, and all sides wanted the parties not to be penalized over changing rules", adding that Bosh will become a free agent but would have to be cleared to play by a team doctor. In the meantime, Bosh worked for awhile with TNT network and said he is considering retirement. Bosh however did get clearance from a personal doctor and had planned to play during the 2016-17 season. But he failed a physical during training camp and the Miami Heat announced that he would no longer play. Bosh disputed the move and discussed it in a documentary he released. After several discussions, everything worked out between Bosh and the Heat. Meanwhile, Miami Heat president Pat Riley announced in a statement that Bosh's No. 1 jersey would by retired by the Heat franchise. "We can't wait to someday hang his jersey in the rafters. He is, without a doubt, one of the greatest players in the history of the franchise," Riley said.
