Miss Universe Philippines wears 'Darna'  as national costume

The Philippines' very own Celeste Cortesi remains the crowd favorite during the national costume competition after she conquered the stage wearing the iconic superheroine 'Darna.' The costume was embellished with a sun and stars headpiece and metalwork embellishments inspired by the Philippine national flag. Oliver Tolentino made the costume, and Jerome Navarro created the headgear. Cortesi remarked on her national costume in a Miss Universe Philippines social media post, "People don't really see women as leaders, and that's because women are always – no matter what – very underestimated by everyone." Mars Ravelo developed the legendary Filipina superhero Darna. With the power of a miraculous white stone, she transforms from an ordinary lady to a heroine. The best national costume winner will be announced during the 71st Miss Universe coronation night at the New Orleans Ernest N. Morial Convention Center in New Orleans, Louisiana. BKM/ Expat Media
