Cory Quirino cites personal and business reasons for dropping franchise

  MANILA – In a move that caught the Philippine pageant world by surprise, Miss World Philippine head Cory Quirino announced that she has quit as local franchise holder of the pageant organized by Julia Morley. Quirino, a radio-television personality and daughter of former President Elpidio Quirino, said in a text message to the Philippine Daily Inquirer that she had to give up the local franchise for "personal and business reasons". She also said she will "focus on projects that were shelved" because of her participation in the pageant scene. Arnold Vegafria, talent manager of Miss World 2013 Megan Young and owner of ALV Talent Circuit, will take over the post from Quirino. Vegafria made the announcement on Instagram along with a photo of him and Morley. "I am very happy to have been awarded the exclusive license for the Miss World and Mr. World pageants in the Philippines. With your support and guidance, I can assure you that we will continue to live up to the prestige and honor that the Miss World Organization deserves - not just in the Philippines but across the world," said Vegafria. Since then until last year, Filipina candidates to Miss World either cracked the semifinals or made it as finalist.
