Missing Dubai tourist found buried in desert

DUBAI - A 55-year-old Asian tourist who was reported missing after arriving in Dubai has been found buried in the desert, Dubai Police officials said. Police have arrested four suspects, including a woman and her son, who led police to the area where they buried the victim. Dubai Police Chief Abdullah Khalifa Al Merri said that the victim, whose nationality was not revealed, was murdered by the group due to a financial dispute. The victim had arrived in the UAE in August. His son reported him missing to UAE authorities after they lost contact. The victim did not have relatives or friends in the UAE. Investigators found the tourist's body buried in a desert in a neighbouring emirate. Police also said that the victim's credit card was used to withdraw Dh200,000 in a European country after he went missing. Police investigation led to the arrest of the 47-year-old woman, her 29-year-old son and two accomplices--all compatriots of the victim--who arrived in the UAE on the same day as the 55-year-old tourist. Police said that the group left the UAE before police were alerted about the missing tourist but that they were arrested following an international warrant. Lieutenant-Colonel Adil Al Joker, head of investigation at Dubai Police’s Criminal Investigation Department, said that during investigation, the suspects admitted that they lured the victim in their car before killing him. Al Joker said that the group kept the corpse in the car for two days before they buried it in the desert. Their case has been referred to the public prosecution.
