MMA's Kimbo Slice dies, no foul play suspected, police say
FLORIDA - Bearded street fighter Kimbo Slice died on Monday (June 7 in UAE). He was 42.
Mike Imber, his longtime manager, confirmed the report of Slice's death.
Slice was taken to a hospital in Margate, Florida near his home in Coral Springs, Police Sgt. Carla Kmiotek said.
The cause of his death remains unclear. According to Kmiotek, there is no active police investigation and no foul play is suspected.
Splice, who real name was Kevin Ferguson, was known for his videos of violent knockout victories.
After gaining viral internet fame, Slice studied Mixed Martial Arts and eventually competed for several promotions, including the UFC and Bellator.
The UFC issued a statement praising Slice, who featured in reality competition show "The Ultimate Fighter" in 2009.
"He carried himself as a true professional during his time in our organization," UFC said. "While he will never be forgotten for his fighting style and transcendent image, Slice will also be remembered for his warm personality and commitment to his family and friends."
American Top Team, where Slice trained for many years, mourned his death. "The ATT Family and South Florida community lost a legend today," the team said in a post on its Twitter account.
