Indian prime minister invites Netanyahu to visit India

  TEL AVIV – Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday announced plans for direct flights between Mumbai and India as he urged Israeli-Indians to visit their home country. In a speech before 6,000 members of the Israeli-Indian community at the Tel Aviv Convention Center, Modi also: *Vowed to ease the process of acquiring Overseas Citizen of India and Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards to Israelis of Indian descent. He said Indians who have done compulsory Army service in Israeli will be eligible to get the cards. *Announced the esrblishment of an Indian Cultural Centre in Israel. According to reports, there are 80,000 people of Indian ancestry in Israeli. At the beginning of his speech, Modi emphasized that his visit is a first by an Indian prime minister in Israel in 70 years. "This is a matter of joy. It took many years for this visit to happen," Modi said. Modi's visit coincides with the 25th year of relations between India and Israeli. With regard Indian-Israeli relations, Modi said, "India's ties to Israel are about tradition, culture, mutual trust and friendship. Israel has shown that more than size, it is the spirit that matters." Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu joined Modi onstage and greeted the Israeli-Indian community with "Namaste." He then told the crowd, "We always remember that there is a human bridge between us, we admire you, respect you, love you." Netanyahu also said India and Israel have "a partnership made in heaven, but happening right now, here on earth." Meanwhile, Modi invited Netanyahu and his family to visit India. Netayahu accepted the invitation. Prior to meeting with the Israeli-Indian community, Modi and Netanyahu agreed to fight terrorism and expand cooperation on cybersecurity. Modi said, "Prime Minister Netanyahu and I agreed to do much more to protect our strategic interests. We will also cooperate to combat growing radicalisation and terrorism. Our cyber security authorities will exchange expertise and knowledge to tackle this menace in cyber space."
