The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MOHRE) has issued a crucial reminder to newly hired employees in the UAE: no work should commence without a valid work permit and an approved job offer letter. This directive aligns with the ministry’s ongoing efforts to protect workers’ rights and ensure employer accountability. The job offer must adhere to the official contract format approved by MOHRE, ensuring consistency and transparency. It must also match the details provided when applying for the work permit. MOHRE emphasized that starting employment without fulfilling these requirements is strictly prohibited. Employers, however, are permitted to offer additional benefits beyond those listed in the job offer, provided they comply with the UAE Labour Law, its executive regulations, and related ministerial decisions. This flexibility allows companies to enhance employee satisfaction while maintaining legal compliance. Highlighting the authenticity of the process, MOHRE stated that approved job offer forms carry a unique barcode for verification. "This feature enables employees and employers to confirm the legitimacy of job offers through our call center at 600590000, our website, or our smart application," a MOHRE representative explained. The ministry further clarified that employment terms can include appendices to the contract, provided these do not conflict with existing labor laws. This ensures that both parties can mutually agree on additional terms while adhering to legal standards. Speaking about the importance of this regulation, a MOHRE spokesperson said, "Our goal is to create a transparent and fair working environment where employees feel secure and employers maintain credibility." Employees are also reminded of their responsibility to comply with labor laws. "Workers must refrain from taking up unauthorized jobs or engaging in employment activities outside their official contracts," MOHRE reiterated. For added security, the ministry encourages workers to verify their job offers before accepting employment. This proactive measure can prevent disputes and ensure smoother onboarding processes.
