A massive Dhs18 billion Moon Resort could be arriving in Abu Dhabi soon. The brilliant city could be the next stop for one of the world's most spectacular tourist destinations. Moon Resort was initially planned for Dubai, but Abu Dhabi is now considered a possible location for the megaproject. Moon World Resorts Inc., based in Canada, first proposed the Dhs18 billion Moon Resort planned last year, and the co-founders have now revealed that they are working hard behind the scenes to make it a reality. "It's gone crazy," co-founder Michael R. Henderson told Hotelier Middle East. "MOON has been extremely well received by the global media and indeed by the Emirati people. We have been astounded by the number of UAE-based individuals who have reached out to share their kind words of encouragement." If Moon Resort is built, it will take approximately 48 months to complete and will be a 735-foot-tall mixed-use building in the shape of Earth's only natural satellite. There are grand plans to construct a spa, nightclub, events center, shopping and retail space, luxury residences, a "moon shuttle," and training services for space agencies and astronauts worldwide. The developers anticipate that the massive Moon Resort will attract more than 10 million visitors annually at its peak. If Moon Resort comes to Abu Dhabi, it could establish the UAE capital as a global hub for affordable space tourism. Henderson and Sandra G. Matthews, co-founders, intend to embark on a roadshow in 2023 to present Moon to potential licensees across the Middle East, with Abu Dhabi as one of the target locations and cities in Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Bahrain, and Kuwait. Abu Dhabi is quickly becoming a popular destination for developers. Recently, the city saw the opening of the National Aquarium Abu Dhabi, the largest aquarium in the Middle East, as well as walking trails, new restaurants, and a massive virtual reality and esports hub, Pixoul Gaming.
