Moroccan jailed, fined Dh150,000 over fake passport

  DUBAI – A Moroccan tourist in Dubai has been jailed and fined Dh150,000 for trying to board a flight from Dubai while using a fake passport. The Dubai Criminal Court sentenced the 25-year-old Moroccan to six months in jail. He will be deported after serving his jail sentence. The Moroccan was arrested at the Dubai International Airport after immigration officers noticed that he used a fake French passport to board a flight to Italy on January 17. During interrogation, the tourist admitted to police that he paid a man in Turkey Dh12,957 for the fake passport to be delivered to him in Dubai. He tried to use the passport to board a flight from Dubai to Rome. However, immigration officers who inspected the document said it was “very obvious” that the passport and the entry stamps were fake. ICA/Expat Media
