1,276 vehicles impounded as Sharjah cracks down on reckless drivers

  SHARJAH - More than 1,000 motorists have been caught for reckless driving on Sharjah's roads, including one motorist driving at a dangerous speed of 230km per hour. Sharjah Police on Saturday (October 15) said that it was the highest speed recorded on Quta-Nazwa Road. Police said that in the last nine months, there were 1,276 motorists fined for reckless driving, with their vehicles impounded for up to 30 days for "driving at dangerous speeds" above 200km/hr. The motorists were also given 12 black points. Sharjah Police has intensified its campaign to curb reckless driving, installing 67 new cameras at traffic intersections, highways and interior roads to catch motorists speeding and jumping red lights.
