Motorists caught in gridlock, traffic diversions on these Dubai roads starting on Saturday

DUBAI - Motorists reported being caught in traffic jams on Friday, after the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) said it will open two new traffic diversions starting on Saturday to make way for roadworks. Phase 2 of the Traffic Diversion Project includes Sheikh Khalifa Street. Motorists plying that route and headed towards the World Trade Centre Roundabout can expect a traffic diversion. A 4km-diversion will also be in place from Al Garhoud in the direction of Al Mina through Sheikh Rashid Street and vice versa. The RTA said it has prepared an integrated plan for traffic diversions in both directions of Sheikh Rashid and Sheikh Khalifa Streets. The diversions are expected to continue until April 2018. On Friday morning (December 29), motorists told Expat Media of traffic jams from Karama to Oud Metha after the Sana Junction was closed to traffic. Traffic diversions on Sheikh Rashid Road and Trade Centre Road in Karama were already in place, motorists said. DAJ/Expat Media
