The new MySSS Card doubles as a debit card and official SSS ID. SUPPLIED

The Philippines' Social Security System (SSS) has officially launched the MySSS Card — a modern ID that also functions as a debit card linked to a savings account. According to SSS President and CEO Robert Joseph Montes De Claro, the MySSS Card “fulfills two purposes. It acts as an official ID, replacing the long-standing Unified Multi-Purpose Identification (UMID) card. It also operates as a fully functional debit card linked to a savings account.” The new card, which became available to applicants on October 1, is equipped with an EMV chip and integrated with the Philippine Identification System (PhilSys) eVerify and biometric authentication to prevent forgery and fraud. SSS said the MySSS Card will automatically become the main disbursement account for members’ benefits, loans, and pensions. This means members no longer need to separately register their bank accounts in the Disbursement Account Enrollment Module. The first partner bank to roll out the MySSS Card is RCBC through its digital arm DiskarTech, with other partner banks — including Asia United Bank, China Bank, and Union Bank of the Philippines — expected to follow.

Why the MySSS Card matters (especially for OFWs)

For overseas Filipino workers (OFWs), the MySSS Card makes it easier to: • Receive SSS benefits directly through a verified bank account • Use a single card as both your SSS ID and ATM card • Make purchases, pay transport fares, and transact online • Secure your identity with biometric authentication and an EMV chip • Avoid the hassle of multiple SSS and bank registration steps
