A new era of discovery begins in Abu Dhabi this November 22, when the Natural History Museum Abu Dhabi opens its doors in Saadiyat Cultural District, making it the largest museum of its kind in the region. Spanning 35,000 square metres, the museum takes visitors on a breathtaking journey through 13.8 billion years of natural history — from the Big Bang to the rise and fall of the dinosaurs, and the ongoing story of Earth’s biodiversity. Among its show-stopping exhibits are three icons of time: Stan, a 67-million-year-old Tyrannosaurus rex skeleton that is among the most intact and well-preserved dinosaur specimens in the world. It will also display a 25-metre blue whale specimen; and the Murchison Meteorite, which contains 7-billion-year-old grains older than the solar system itself. Mohamed Khalifa Al Mubarak, Chairman of the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi, said the opening marks “a major milestone in shaping the emirate’s cultural landscape.” “The museum offers an immersive look at the story of life on Earth, framed for the first time through an Arabian lens,” Al Mubarak said. Designed by world-renowned architects Mecanoo, the building’s structure mirrors natural rock formations. Visitors can explore galleries such as The Story of Earth, Our World, and Resilient Planet, plus special exhibits like The March of the Triceratops and Wildlife Photographer of the Year. The museum joins cultural giants such as Louvre Abu Dhabi and the upcoming Zayed National Museum, cementing Saadiyat Island’s status as a global hub for science and culture. CAM/Expat Media
