  CHICAGO - A new report has revealed the most valuable or profitable NBA teams, citing two teams who have held the top two posts in the past 20 years. A report by Forbes senior editor Kurt Badenhausen has named the New York Knicks and Los Angeles Lakers as the most valuable or profitable NBA teams but the Golden State Warriors may unseat either of the two as it made its biggest growth last year. The report said an average NBA team is worth US$1.36 billion and their value went up with a 3.5 increase the past five years. A nine-year, US$25-billion media deal with ESPN and TNT starting this season and a new collective bargaining agreement for the next seven years contributed to the growth. For the second consecutive year, the Knicks is the most valuable team with a value of US$3.3 billion or an increase of 10 percent from last year. The team also benefitted from the renovation of its home court, Madison Square Garden (MSG), costing US$1 billion. The team also benefitted from a local cable deal with MSG amounting to US$100 million. The Lakers, on the hand, made the most of superstar Kobe Bryant's retirement tour and overcame its worst season in its history by increasing its value to US$3 billion or an increase of 11 percent from last year. Meanwhile, the Golden State franchise jumped from sixth place last year to third. The team's value rose to an NBA-high 37 percent so that the team's value is now at US$2.6 billion. The Warriors are set to unseat the Knicks and the Lakers in terms of revenue with a new $1-billion arena in Mission Bay district that will open at the start of the 2019-20 season and securing the richest naming right agreement with Chase worth an estimated US$300 million.
