New bridge opens in Dubai, new traffic diversion begins elsewhere

DUBAI - A new bridge linking a key intersection in Dubai opened to traffic on Friday (March 30), while a main traffic diversion was also begun elsewhere in the emirate. The new bridge that opened on Friday links the Marrakech and Airport Roads intersection. If you are heading from Deira towards Al Khawaneej using Airport Road, you can now use the new bridge on Marrakech-Airport Roads Intersection, according to the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA).

Main traffic diversion

Meanwhile, a main traffic diversion at the intersection of Latifa bint Hamdan Street and Al Asayel Street was rolled out on Friday. Motorists on Latifa bint Hamdan street heading towards Al Khail Road will need to continue straight down the road, the RTA said. Those traveling on Al Asayel Street heading straight and passing the Latifa bint Hamdan’s intersection will need to take the new diversion and make a U-turn.

The RTA said that the road project will serve traffic heading northward in the direction of Al Khail Road and Business Bay Crossing. It will also serve traffic on Latifa bint Hamdan Street eastward in the direction of Al Khail Road and Sheikh Zayed Road, and westward in the direction of Al Khail Road. The project aims to serve the traffic on Al Asayel Road to the North and South. Upgrading the surface intersection will step up the efficiency of the project through reducing the waiting time at the existing intersection from three minutes to less than a minute, the RTA said.
