‘New Burj’ to rise as world’s tallest building – Scroll down for the video

  DUBAI – Dubai's megastructure will be higher than the world's tallest building—the 828-metre Burj Khalifa—by 100 metres, an official said. Details about the Dh3.65-billion The Tower were revealed by Mohammad Al Abbar, Chairman of Emaar Properties, during a recent interview with CNN. The Tower will be located at the Dubai Creek Harbour in Ras Al Khor. "The new Burj will have cables supporting the building... the cables are almost like jewelry, and Calatrava has done a fabulous job," said Al Abbar. He also confirmed that construction of the project will take place in July, and that "the tower will have boutique hotel, few floors of gardens, restaurants, observation and function halls.” He added that the plaza will be much bigger than the downtown plaza due to the sheer size of the tower and the cables. "But what we will do with the plaza and how we beautify it and real estate around it will be quite a job," he said. Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava Valls is the mastermind behind the tower’s design. Valls is also the creator of internationally renowned structures including The World Trade Centre's Transportation Hub in New York, Rio de Janeiro's Museum of Tomorrow and the Turning Torso in Sweden.
