New crackdown in UAE targets illegal ads in public spaces
Police in Sharjah have launched a new crackdown on illegal ads in public spaces, with Sharjah Municipality warning of a Dh4,000 fine for violators. Workers began cleanup operations in Al Nahda, with posters removed from building walls, street poles, and even the side of bridges and tunnels. The illegal posters contain advertisements on various topics, including room rentals, massage services or carlift services. Police said inspections will be held daily to clear public spaces of such eyesores. Obaid Saeed Al Tunaiji, director-general of the Sharjah Municipality, stressed that the Shajah-wide campaign comes with an intensified crackdown on activities that spoil the emirate's surroundings. “The municipality vows to take the necessary measures against those who distribute and stick such illegal advertising posters across the emirate," Al Tunaiji said. "We will not let those who are found sticking bills and stickers on walls go free," he stressed. The fine for violators is Dh4,000.
