New Dh2 billion Dubai road project to cut travel time to 8 minutes

  DUBAI – A new road improvement project that will radically change the Dubai-Al Ain highway and cut transit time to eight minutes has been approved to the tune of Dh2 billion. The Dubai-Al Ain Road Project, when completed, will let motorists travel from Emirates Road interchange to Oud Metha Street in eight minutes instead of sixteen, and accommodate up to 12,000 vehicles per hour. The project was approved by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. Upgrade existing bridge at Al Meydan Street intersection The project will serve several development projects on both sides of the Dubai-Al Ain Road such as Meydan, Dubai Silicon Oasis, Dubailand Residential Complex, Liwan and Dubai Design District, said Mattar Al Tayer, Director General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of Roads and Transport Authority (RTA). The project will also link the road to several highways, such as Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Road and Emirates Road. Six interchanges will be upgraded and new bridges and service roads will be constructed, with a 17km road expanded from three lanes to six in each direction. Al Tayer said that the project will be divided into two phases, with phase one covering 7km from the interchange of Emirates Road to the interchange of the Mohammed bin Zayed Road. Phase II stretches 10km from the interchange of the Mohammed bin Zayed Road up to the interchange of Bu Kadra and Ras Al Khor Street. The development of the remaining sector of the Dubai-Al Ain Road from the interchange of Emirates Road up to the outskirts of Al Ain city will be undertaken in future," explained Al Tayer.
