Dubai taxi fare to start at Dh20 on New Year’s Eve

Commuters taking Hala Taxis or metered Dubai taxis during New Year’s Eve will have to pay a flag down rate of Dh20 instead of Dh12 at certain locations and times, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA). On Hala Taxis, the increased fare will be imposed from 6pm on December 31 to 6am on January 1 at locations where fireworks displays are scheduled. Dubai authorities have announced that there will be 32 fireworks venues, including the Burj Khalifa. For regular metered taxis and Hala taxis, the flag down rate will start at Dh20 at locations of main events such as exhibitions and conventions, including Expo City, World Trade Center and Global Village, during major events. This means that the flag down rate for metered taxis and Hala Taxi at Global Village, Expo City and World Trade Center will be increased to Dh20 from 6pm on December 31 to 6am on January 1. “Through these changes, (we aim) to continuously improve and develop both regular taxi services and the e-hail ride of Hala Taxi, especially during major events like New Year’s Eve, which typically sees a significant increase in demand for taxi services from residents, visitors, and tourists travelling to Dubai from all over the world,” according to RTA.
