UAE’s Ministry of Health and Prevention provides approval for the use of the new drug that will aid triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) patients. UAE is the second country to approve the drug developed by MSD Pharmaceuticals after the United States. The drug will be taken along with chemotherapy according to Prof Humaid Al Shamsi, President EOS and professor at the University of Sharjah. "The approval offers a significant sense of hope for patients with this aggressive form of breast cancer as it increases the treatment options," said Prof Al Shamsi. The recommended dosage of the drug for treating TNBC will be 200 mg every three weeks or 400 mg every six weeks as an intravenous infusion over 30 minutes. As TNBC is known to be aggressive cancer, the drug treatment will reduce cancer’s reoccurrence rate and death risk compared with just chemotherapy. Dr. Dina Hamza, Consultant Medical Oncologist of Dubai Hospital emphasized that the drug will be able to improve the quality of life for UAE’s TNBC patients by speeding up their treatment plans and having better options. "The launch of this new drug will offer a renewed sense of hope for patients with TNBC. They will now have access to this immuno-therapy across public and private clinics," said Dr. Hamza.
