New Dubai toll gate begins charging drivers

DUBAI - A new toll gate on Sheikh Zayed Road began operation on Wednesday (October 24), charging motorists Dh4 for each trip. The Salik checkpoint is located near the Energy Metro Station in Jebel Ali. The new toll gate is expected to help divert traffic to Yalayis Road and other parallel freeways, according to the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA). “The new toll gate will reduce traffic flow to Sheikh Zayed Road by 25 per cent and encourage residents to use public transportation,” said Mattar Al Tayer, Director General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of the RTA. The Jebel Ali toll gate is the third toll gate on the Sheikh Zayed Road and the seventh across Dubai. The new toll gate is expected to help decongest Sheikh Zayed Road by diverting traffic to alternative highways such as Al Khail Road, Emirates Road, Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road and Sheikh Zayed Bin Hamdan Road.
