Dubai has amended its traffic law to impose stricter penalties on reckless drivers, with the new rules taking effect starting on Thursday (July 6). Here is the full list of fines and penalties and their corresponding violations:

Deportation from UAE

In addition to being fined, an expat driver or non-Emirati driver of a heavy vehicle that jumps a red light will be deported from the UAE.

Dh100,000 fine to claim impounded vehicle

Participating in an illegal road race will get your car impounded and you will need to pay a stiffer penalty of Dh100,000 to release the car.

Dh50,000 fine to claim impounded vehicle

Under the amended law, owners of impounded cars will need to pay Dh50,000 to release their vehicle if the reason for the impoundment is any of the following: - Jumping a red light - Driving with fake, forged, obscured or unlawfully used number plate - Driving without license/Driving while under 18 years old - Intentionally crashing into a police car - Reckless driving that poses a danger to lives or properties - Riding recreational motorcycles on paved roads

Dh10,000 fine to claim impounded vehicle

Owners of impounded cars will need to pay Dh10,000 to release their vehicle if the reason for the impoundment is any of the following: - Driving without a number plate - Driving an illegally modified vehicle that causes noise, disturbances - Evading police - Gathering drivers for illegal races or illegal car showcase - Exceeding allowed tint percentage for car windows -  Tinting front windshield without permit

Impoundment of vehicle with total fines exceeding Dh6,000

The Dubai Police can administratively impound a vehicle if the total traffic fines have exceeded Dh6,000. The car will be released only after payment of all traffic fines.

Dh50 fine per day for unclaimed impounded cars

A fine of Dh50 per day will be imposed on car owners who do not claim their impounded vehicle after the expiration of the impoundment period.

Impoundment fines to double

The fine for impounded vehicles will be doubled in case the car is impounded again within one year from the occurrence of the same offence, provided that the amount does not exceed Dh200,000.

Impoundment period to double

The impoundment period of a vehicle will be doubled in case the vehicle is impounded again within one year from the occurrence of the same offence, provided that the impoundment period does not exceed 90 days. An impounded vehicle will only be released upon payment of all fines due on the vehicle, the rectification of the violation, and any other conditions and measures determined by Dubai Police and authorities.
