New flyover, bridge opens to ease Karama-Bur Dubai traffic

DUBAI - A bridge and a four-lane flyover has opened in Dubai to ease traffic between Karama and Bur Dubai. The new flyover on Sana interchange, which opened to traffic on Saturday (February 3), is expected to ease the Karama-Sheikh Zayed Road traffic and is part of the 13km-long Shindagha Corridor, a road upgrade that stretches from Wafi Interchange to Al Mamzar. The Dh611-million interchange upgrade also includes an eight-lane underpass, which will be ready in mid-2018. The three-tier interchange upgrade will also increase traffic capacity through Dubai's busiest areas. More lanes will be added to the roads leading to the Sana intersection, with five lanes leading from the direction of Wafi intersection on Sheikh Rashid Road. Work on the second phase of the Dh3.8-billion Shindagha Corridor project is expected to start later this year. Phase two of the project includes a 12-lane Shindagha bridge connecting historic districts of Al Shindagha and Al Ras. Intersections along the Shindagha Corridor from the Sana interchange, and the Abu Hail Road-Al Khaleej Road intersection in Deira will also be upgraded.
