Abu Dhabi has unveiled its latest cultural landmark, the Light and Peace Museum, offering visitors a glimpse into the rich history of Islamic civilization. Officially opened on Wednesday (December 18) under the patronage of Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President, Deputy Prime Minister, and Chairman of the Presidential Court, the museum provides free entry for a limited time. Located within the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque Centre, the Light and Peace Museum features a remarkable collection of rare Islamic relics, artistic masterpieces, and historical artefacts. Visitors can explore the museum daily from 9am to 10pm, with detailed information available on the Centre's website. Dr. Yousef Abdullah Al Obaidly, Director-General of the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque Centre, highlighted the museum’s mission to celebrate Islamic culture and its contributions to science, art, and literature. "The Light and Peace Museum reflects the UAE's vision to enrich the cultural landscape while reviving the treasures of Islamic civilization. It showcases the encouragement of science and arts within Islamic culture," he said. Among the notable exhibits are rare and historical items such as a section of the Kaaba’s kiswa from the 20th century and the dinar of Abdul Malik ibn Marwan, the first Islamic gold coin minted in 77AH. Visitors can also marvel at gold-illuminated Quranic pages from the 9th-10th century Blue Quran manuscript. Other highlights include Akhbar Mecca, a 14th-century book detailing the history of Mecca, a 14th-century Andalusian astrolabe, and personal items of the UAE’s Founding Father, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan. The collection also includes intricately crafted metal, wood, marble, and textile artefacts. Dr. Al Obaidly emphasized the museum's role in connecting visitors to a profound legacy of creativity and knowledge. "Each exhibit tells a story of Islamic civilization's diversity, richness, and ingenuity," he noted. The museum’s launch coincides with growing interest in cultural tourism across the UAE. Abu Dhabi has emerged as a hub for cultural experiences, with landmarks such as the Louvre Abu Dhabi and the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque attracting millions of visitors annually.
