A dedicated Overseas Filipino Workers (OFW) wing has officially opened at NAIA Terminal 3, aiming to streamline immigration processing for thousands of departing migrant workers each day. The Bureau of Immigration (BI) announced on Wednesday (April 9) that the new facility includes six new counters manned by 12 immigration officers, significantly reducing congestion at the airport’s immigration area. “This dedicated OFW wing is a testament to our commitment to making immigration procedures smoother and more efficient for our modern-day heroes,” said Immigration Commissioner Joel Anthony Viado. The new expansion is timely, as the country approaches one of its busiest travel periods during the April holidays. BI records show an average of more than 3,400 OFWs depart daily from NAIA. The improvement also benefits other travelers, including tourists, as it frees up regular immigration counters and reduces overall queue times. Viado thanked the Department of Migrant Workers and New NAIA Infrastructure Corp. for supporting the project’s implementation. He acknowledged the vital role of OFWs in sustaining the Philippine economy through remittances and international labor. “We recognize their sacrifices, and we want to ensure they experience faster and more convenient processing as they leave for work abroad,” Viado said.
