Would Dubai be introducing new Salik gates? There is yet no decision by the Roads and Transport Authority, but it is a possibility, according to Salik Company. Khaleej Times quoted Ibrahim Al Haddad, CEO of Salik Company, as saying that new Salik gates are needed “from a traffic standpoint”. However, Al Haddad said the decision rests with the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), and ultimately depends on the approval of the Executive Council of Dubai. He also said that the Salik Company is in discussion with the RTA on bringing more measures for traffic management, including installing a new Salik gate. Dubai currently has eight toll gates across major highways, including Sheikh Zayed Road. Motorists that pass through a toll gate pay a fee of Dh4 that is deducted from their Salik account. Salik has 4 million vehicles registered in its database. In the first half of this year alone, Salik gates in Dubai recorded 293 million trips. Salik toll gates in Dubai are located in Al Barsha, Al Garhoud Bridge, Al Maktoum Bridge, Al Mamzar South, Al Mamzar North, Al Safa, Airport Tunnel and Jebel Ali. ICA/Expat Media
