New speed limit on Dubai road comes into force

DUBAI - A new speed limit on a key Dubai highway came into force on Saturday. The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) said the speed limit on Sheikh Zayed Bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Road will be increased from 80kph to 90kph beginning on May 12. The new speed limit covers the stretch of the road between the Dubai-Al Ain Road and Jebel Ali-Lehbab Road junctions. The 50km-long road runs from Jebel Ali-Lehbab Road to the Oman Street intersection, and passes the Dubai Silicon Oasis, Arabian Ranches and the Expo 2020 site. The radar will catch anyone speeding at 110kph or faster. Maitha Bin Adai, CEO of RTA’s Traffic and Roads Agency, said that the decision to raise the speed limit on this road section came after extensive studies. The eight-lane road was renamed Sheikh Zayed Bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street last February in honour of Abu Dhabi royalty, Sheikh Zayed Bin Hamdan, who was injured in a helicopter crash while serving in the Presidential Guard in Yemen.
