  DUBAI – A new 3,000-acre island near Abu Dhabi’s Al Bateen Beach is drawing sports enthusiasts looking for an outdoor leisure hub. The new hangout, Al Hudayriat island, has two loops of running tracks measuring 5km, and two cycling tracks spanning 10km. It also features a Dh184-million bridge. Al Hudayriat island’s public beach spans 600 metres and features a long line of sun chairs that people can use for free. It also features a slipway for those who love to jet ski. On the island, cyclists can rent bicycles for Dh50 per hour, which they can pay by cash or credit cards. It also has a children’s playground, five football fields, four volleyball courts, four beach football courts and four basketball courts. Work on the island began in 2009, taking nearly 10 years for the outdoor hotspot to be completed. Food truck facilities are in the pipeline, along with sites where the public can get learn mountain biking, kite surfing or kayaking. A site for camping will also be opened.
