New UAE rule: All events serving alcohol need CID approval

The UAE has made it mandatory to get a permit from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in case alcohol is served in any corporate or private event in the country. The new rule on serving alcohol in events was implemented beginning February 15, according to a new circular. It applies to both commercial and non-commercial events. The “obligation to secure CID Alcohol Permit to serve alcohol for the event is conditional upon the UAE CID and DET regulatory requirements and laws then prevailing, submission of required documentation and payment of CID Permit,” according to the circular. The event organizer or the venue owner, such as hotels, can apply for the CID alcohol permit, which costs Dh1,250 per event, per day. According to the circular, the permit must be applied at least 14 days prior to the event. The documents needed are a valid Emirates ID and a Department of Economy and Tourism permit.
