New UAE warning against buying used tyres

DUBAI – UAE traffic experts made a fresh warning against buying used car tyres, saying these tyres may cause serious road accidents when used. The sale of used car tyres is banned in the UAE. Motorists caught driving with worn-out tyres face a fine of Dh500, four black points on their traffic file and a 7-day impoundment of the vehicle. Jamal Al Amri, a traffic expert, warned that motorists must not buy old tyres because these could cause fatal accidents. “There's no need to cut corners while buying key car accessories such as tyres that may cost a motorist’s life if h/she opts for used and bad quality stuff,” he said. Worn-out tyres run the risk of bursting during high temperatures, particularly during the hot summer months in the UAE. According to police, one of the top causes of traffic accidents in the country are crashes caused by burst tyres.
