Dubai New Year: how to get ringside view without traffic and crowd

  DUBAI - Key spots in Dubai will be the setting for a grand New Year's Eve spectacle that is sure to draw huge crowds and traffic gridlock, but you can still catch a better view without going through the hassle. We're talking about ringside view. How, you ask? The Roads and Transport Authority on Sunday announced that special rides will be available on Dubai Ferry, abras as well as water buses from Dubai Creek, canal, Dubai Marina and Al Ghubaiba to allow passengers to watch fireworks from the waters. “The RTA is stepping up efforts to offer a new marine transit experience availing riders a superb opportunity to live the thrilling moments of festivities at Burj Khalifa, Burj Al Arab, the Atlantis and Dubai Water Canal, through sea cruises aboard marine transit modes. The experience is bound to leave fond memories for residents, visitors and tourists,” said Mansour Rahma Al Falasi, Director of Marine Transport at the RTA’s Public Transport Agency.

Dubai Ferry

Passengers need to hop on before 9pm on December 31 when the ferries begin their journey from Marina Mall station, Ghubaiba station, Dubai Festival City station in Dubai Creek and Sheikh Zayed Road station at the Dubai Water Canal. The ferry rides will cost Dh300 for silver class and Dh450 for gold class. Tickets for children from the age of 2 to 10 start at Dh150. Rides are free for children under the age of two. The rides end at 1:30am after midnight revelries.

Abra

Those planning to watch the New Year's Eve fireworks from abras can head to the stations in Dubai Festival City, Jaddaf or Ghubaiba. Rides start at 10.30pm at Dh125 per person, while children under the age of two ride free. The rides end at 1:30am.

Water Bus

Those who plan to celebrate their new year on the Water Bus can head to the Terrace or Promenade station or Marina Mall station before the service starts at 10:30pm. The fare is Dh125 per person, with rides free for children under the age of two. The rides end at 1:30pm. DAJ/Expat Media
