Dubai health authority says move is a precautionary measure against infant snatching

  DUBAI – The Dubai Health Authority said hospitals in the emirate will begin putting electronic monitors on newborn babies as a precautionary measure against infant snatching. The authority however stressed that they have not recorded any baby-snatching incidents in Dubai. The monitor will alert the mother and the hospital if the infant is being taken surreptitiouly or without consent, according to reports. "The authority aims to provide hospitals, health centers and clinics with the latest smart technologies," said Humaid Al Qatami, chairman of the board and director-general of the Dubai Health Authority. Meanwhile, Dubai hospitals will also install a device to monitor oxygen levels in a baby's blood and alert the parents and hospital staff if the level drops below normal. The move aims to reduce the number of neonatal deaths in Dubai. Many newborn babies die due to less oxygen levels, it was learned.
