'Nightmare’ traffic to end as Dh258 million Abu Dhabi project wraps up

  DUBAI – Traffic jams in front of the Abu Dhabi Mall are expected to end after a 10-year construction work worth Dh258 million was completed recently. Abu Dhabi authorities announced that work on the Al Zahiyah development project in front of the Abu Dhabi Mall is now complete. Construction on Al Zahiyah began in December 2008, with motorists reporting earlier this year that they were caught in "nightmare" traffic jams around the mall. The project includes new roads, bridges, parks, rainwater drainage, street lighting, traffic sign installations and pedestrian walkways that the Abu Dhabi Municipality said would help raise standards of living for residents. “The project was implemented within the framework of....providing high-quality infrastructure that meets the needs of the individual and society," the municipality said in a statement. “The project also aims to raise the standard of living, consolidate sustainable development and contribute to the happiness and well-being of the community," it added.
