No attempted hijacking of aircraft from Dubai, says Flydubai

DUBAI - Low-cost carrier Flydubai has denied reports about an attempted hijacking of one of its aircraft flying from Dubai to Kabul. Rumours have circulated on social media that a Flydubai plane bound for Kabul had been hijacked by a knife weilding passenger who attempted to enter the cockpit but was subdued by cabin crew who locked him inside the lavatory. Flydubai dismissed the reports as untrue, but said there was an incident onboard a flight to Kabul that involved a "disruptive passenger", forcing the flight to return back to Dubai. The airline said, however, it was not a hijacking incident. A Flydubai spokesperson said that flight FZ301 from Dubai to Kabul returned to Dubai as there was a disruptive passenger onboard. "The disruptive passenger was met by the relevant authorities on the aircraft’s arrival,” the spokesperson said. The UAE’s General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) also denied a hijacking attempt on the aircraft. State news agency WAM cited the GCAA as saying that the unruly passenger was detained by authorities upon landing in Dubai.
