No hugs for Emirati who recovered from Covid-19
ABU DHABI – An Emirati man who has recovered from Covid-19 says he no longer hugs his children and rarely leaves the house for the safety of his family and society. Saeed Al Khyeli, 43, returned home after more than two weeks of treatment at Al Ain hospital. “We still maintain social distancing. We do not come too close to each other anymore. Even I don’t hug my children," Al Khyeli told state news agency WAM. "We buy groceries in bulk and everything is first sanitised before use. There are no gatherings anymore; I do not meet friends or go out anymore and I’ve advised everyone to do the same," said the Emirati father of eight. Al Khyeli had contracted Covid-19 in the US while visiting his brother who was getting medical treatment in February. In March, the brothers were able to return home on a plane arranged by the UAE government as borders were shut due to the coronavirus pandemic. He said that his brother developed flu-like symptoms in the US, while he felt he had the regular flu. When they arrived in the UAE, the brothers decided to self-isolate. “I sent my children to their aunt’s house and stayed in the living room while my brother stayed in another room," he said. His test taken by Al Ain Hospital later revealed he was positive for Covid-19, and so he was taken to the hospital for a two-week treatment. He underwent two tests to confirm he no longer had Covid-19 before he was discharged from the hospital. "This virus is an unwanted guest and I therefore advise everyone to be careful. Only you can invite this virus in and we need to all be careful," he said.
